What is the beauty of the Gospel?
The beauty of the Gospel is the beauty of relationship, a letting into our 'weird little world' Someone who really does know us, who truly understands us, who passionately believes in us, who utterly, totally and without condition loves us.
This is what God is like.
In Jesus we encounter One who does not condemn us, or accuse us. After listening to Sam's talk I was reminded again of this amazing truth. God is not like the satan. The Kingdom of God is not like the way of the world or the System that enslaves. God truly is the God of freedom, calling us out of fear, judgement, accusation and unforgiveness and into life, peace, hope, love, forgiveness and grace.
This conversation between Matt Damon's character and Robin Williams' character encapsulates for me something of the heart of the Gospel, a 'letting in' of Someone into our world. It is vulnerable yet liberating. It is a recognition of your own imperfections, your inability to be the person you were created to be, and yet in the midst of that you are loved just as you are.
So together you journey towards the image of God in you.
Those little idiosyncrasies known only by God yet safe in his hands.
The risk of relationship with God becomes life to our weary hearts and souls, healing our brokenness, redeeming the fractured image of God in us.
I firmly believe a Day is coming when that contagious, uncontrollable laughter that brings tears to our eyes will be our reality as we are swept up fully into the Eternal.
