Church in Conflict

'What causes a conflict in the Church? We are told...it arises because in the Church there emerge people with the best intentions and Christian zeal who no longer understand aright the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ in its unique redeeming power, who even fear and hate it and who extol and demand in its place or alongside it (as if anything could stand alongside it!) fulfilment of the Law as the condition for the salvation of man...we may well say that all conflict in the Church arises because people in the Church fight against grace. When free grace is preached, there the Church is alive for there God Himself is at work.' Barth, The German Church Conflict p 13

true - it's basically when rules become more important than relationships, grace gets lost.

Hi malianta! You're so right. It is all about relationships. Real, loving relationships. The Church is called to be a beacon of light with relationships; grace filled relationships...

I think this is a perfect summary.

Grace - this has got me thinking.

I think i missed the Grace part of my chrisitan life somewhere? Fulfillment of the Law was how i saw it, i spent most of my time living in guilt and fear.

I want some Grace, i need salvation again

Grace is the most beautiful reality. We are called not to follow an endless list of rules, but to follow a person, and that person is Jesus. He is full of grace and truth. By following him we seek to be like him and to reflect him. As we reflect him we too begin to be ever more filled with grace and truth. Jesus IS grace and truth. And so as we follow him, be like him and are changed by him, God willing we will be set free from fear and guilt! But this is a lifelong journey! Hopefully I'm a bit more like Jesus today than I was yesterday! :0)
