We were looking at chapter 37, the valley of dry bones. One of the verses says, 'So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.'
I was thinking about this verse and then looked at the Hebrew. The Hebrew for 'vast army' means 'a great force'. This Hebrew word finds its root in the Hebrew word that means 'whirl' or 'to dance'.
Got me thinking.
Maybe this vision that Ezekiel received from God was about Israel being once again the light of the world and a reflection to the other nations of who God is.
The Church is called to this.
God is Father, Son and Spirit. There is an eternal 'dance' within the trinity of mutual indwelling (called perichoresis).
Maybe this is what the vision was all about. Israel called to reflect God, his eternal love and relationship, to the world around.
Going to keep pondering this idea. I'm sure a sermon is brewing...
